Last night the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Edmonton Oilers in game 7, 3-1. Cam Ward won the Conn Smythe Trophy. The Edmonton Oilers gave it a good ride, but in the end, the Hurricanes were simply too much. It was a close game. The Hurricanes were up 2-1 until their empty netter at the end of the game.
As predicted, Carolina did win the series (see the Golden Opportunity post). If you were betting along, you won. They sure did give us a ride and it tested our resolve, but in the end the Carolina Hurricanes won. They did not become the second team in history to blow the series lead—they were up 3-1.
So, with this post, we conclude the 2006 NHL Hockey season. Soon, we will start to hear about player and team moves as the off-season will be heating up. Stay tuned as we bring you all the off-season moves and gear up for NHL 2007. It’s going to be a great season.
