It was destined to happen. The entire sports world basically wrote Edmonton off and left them for dead. However, last night’s game 3 was played on their home ice and it was win or look towards next season. Last night was also the second game in goal for Oilers’ goalie Jussi Markkanen. It might be a stretch to say the Oilers rose to the occasion and played their best hockey in some time, but they did get the job done.
The Oilers did just enough to eek out a 2-1 victory at home and put a first notch in the win column for their side. The Hurricanes still lead the series 2-1, but now there is doubt in the air. Game 4 is in Edmonton tomorrow at 8:05 pm EST. The game is pretty much a pick em betting wise. The series price on the Hurricanes has dropped from -400 after game two and is now around -330 at many places.
If the Oilers can pull off another win at home tomorrow, this entire series is going to shift. All the pressure will now be on the Hurricanes. After being up 2-0 and facing a #8 seed that lost their goalie and their edge, the Hurricanes were expected to bring home the cup. Game 4 is just as much of a must-win game for the Hurricanes as it is for the Oilers. For the Oilers, the plan is simple—they must win game 4.
