Red Wings Blank Penguins

Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals was last night and the Red Wings destroyed the Penguins. It wasn’t even close.

Going into the 3rd period, the Penguins still had a shot—despite being shut down all game. However, the Red Wings were having nothing to do with comebacks. In the 3rd period they unleashed their fury and scored 3 insurance goals. Their 4-0 win gave them a 1-0 lead for the cup.

Can we expect the Penguins to show up or is this a sign of things to come?

Given that the Red Wings are at home and that the Penguins are 12-3 in the NHL playoffs, I think we’ll see a good series in the end.

I wasn’t surprised that the Red Wings won, they should win it all, but the complete domination of the Penguins was indeed surprising.

Osgood was money, but he only faced 19 shots. His counterpart, Fleury, was barraged for 36 shots—almost two times as much.

The Penguins need to increase their shots and play a little defense next game. A tall order for sure.

Game 2 is tomorrow at 5pm in Detroit.
