Tonight’s game six was absolutely sensational. The game sailed under the total of six goals. The Sabres opened the scoring with a goal in the first period. It was lights out from there until the end of the third period when the Hurricanes scored the equalizer to send the game knotted at 1-1 into OT. The Sabres looked to be playing the game not to lose rather than playing to win after their go-ahead goal in the first period.
In overtime, the Sabres were the recipients of an early power play. It looked as if the Hurricanes would kill it off easily as the Sabres could not even mange to get set up and the Hurricanes kept fresh bodies coming in with each puck clearance. However, with just seconds left to go in the power play Daniel Briere rocketed a shot towards Ward. Ward did not see the puck coming in, but got body on it. The puck shot into the air and over Ward’s back for the game winning OT goal.
The Sabres live to fight another day. Game 7 is going to at Carolina on June 1st. There were 60 total shots in this game. Carolina played extremely aggressive and when they scored the equalizing goal in the third, you could hear a pin drop. The Buffalo crowd was silenced for the first time all night. Many had been standing the whole period. Game 7 on Thursday is going to be exciting. There have been high scoring games, two OT games in a row and now a climatic game 7 in this series. It has not disappointed.
