In just hours from now, the NHL Finals are going to start with the Edmonton Oilers facing off at the Carolina Hurricanes. Tonight, the Hurricanes are a -150 favorite at home and a favorite in the series as well. The main question tonight seems to be “how rusty are the Oilers?†The Edmonton Oilers had a long layoff after dispatching the Ducks in just five games.
The puck is dropping at 8:00 pm EST tonight. Tonight’s game 1 of the NHL Finals features something that has not happened in 19 years—a rookie goalie. Cam Ward of the Hurricanes is ready to show the world that rookies can win. Ward has been instrumental in the Hurricanes making it this far. For the Oilers, veteran Dwayne Roloson will be in net.
While Carolina is was the 2 seed in the East, the Oilers surprised most everyone was getting this far as the 8 seed. Both of these teams are playing well and we really don’t know what to expect. On one hand, the Oilers could be out of steam and due for a shorts series against a better foe. On the other hand, the Oilers could be for real and still playing hard at the right time to make this series interesting.
Cam Ward has clearly been the difference for the Hurricanes. On their home ice, they can be devastating. I personally think the Hurricanes in Carolina will be far too much for the Oilers tonight. I like the Hurricanes -150 in game one. The Hurricanes are more tested and ready to get it on.
